A Different Way to Experience Art

Many visitors tell me that seeing artwork where it is made changes the way they experience it.

Before a sculpture reaches an exhibition or a collector's home, it exists among shelves of works in progress, glaze tests, research books, sketches and field observations. It is here that ideas emerge, evolve and slowly take form.

A studio visit offers an opportunity to step behind the gallery wall and experience contemporary ceramics within the place they are created. Whether you're an art collector, a traveller exploring Tasmania, or simply curious about the creative process, you'll be warmly welcomed into my working studio in Binalong Bay.

There is no need to know anything about art. Curiosity is enough.

What You'll Experience

During your visit you may:

• Browse available ceramic sculptures, vessels and porcelain jewellery.

• See works in progress at different stages of making.

• Learn about porcelain, clay, glazes and firing.

• Discover the field observations that inspire my practice.

• Explore research books, sketches and natural specimens collected from the forests and coastline of Tasmania.

• Ask questions about contemporary ceramics, exhibitions, collecting original artwork or commissions.

• Enjoy tea or coffee while we talk.

Every visit is relaxed, personal and unhurried.

Every Visit is Different

Because this is an active working studio, no two visits are ever quite the same.

You may arrive while new sculptures are drying on the shelves, glaze tests have just emerged from the kiln or artworks are being prepared for an upcoming exhibition. Sometimes the studio is filled with finished work ready for collectors. At other times it is full of experiments, questions and new directions.

Rather than visiting a static gallery, you'll experience a creative practice as it continues to evolve.

Why Visit an Artist's Studio?

Meeting an artist within their own studio offers a very different experience from viewing artwork in a gallery or online.

You'll gain insight into the thinking behind the work, understand the materials and processes involved, and discover how ideas develop over time. Visitors often tell me that seeing unfinished work, research materials and the studio environment helps them connect more deeply with the finished artworks.

Whether you leave with a new piece for your collection or simply a greater appreciation for the creative process, I hope you'll leave having slowed down long enough to notice where ideas begin.
