Making Anew 3

A$135.00

This individual porcelain sculpture was part of a large installation of ceramic art on display as part of Making Anew, 2020 at The Academy Gallery, UTAS - Inveresk.

Made from stained cool ice porcelain and special effects glaze, this sculpture’s artistic name is a flanged Mycozoophyte artificialii with a pixie cup appendage. Take this one home and you may discover it reveals its real name to you.

As these sculptures were imagined and displayed on mass, you may like to create your own collection, placing them along thin perspex shelves on a feature wall, or setting them grouped together beneath a clear cloche.

However you display them in your home, remember that they may just come alive to you, to share their wisdoms of the world and of how to save the planet.

Artist Statement

Making Anew, 2020 considered conflicts surrounding the notion of nature, challenging the centrality that humankind has afforded itself over the natural environment. Acknowledging the need to dispel constrained ideas of purity, Making Anew proposed that the humility of hybridity allows a new way of seeing. Looking through a new lens on nature, this project envisioned adaptation and hybridity as an alternate future given the immense capacity of the non-human through the innovation of mycozoophytes. The biodiverse fungi-animal-plants are imagined to inhabit the humanized world, consuming manufactured materials as a restorative function in renewing the Earth.
